From rewards to payments

We started with rewards. Koomalooma was built for engagement and loyalty, on the belief that keeping a customer matters as much as winning one, and that a reward only works if the person receiving it values it.

In 2018 we turned the same thinking to payments. Plenty of people held digital assets and had few places to spend them, so Cryptorefills gave them one: gift cards and mobile top-ups from thousands of brands, paid for in crypto. Every payment method we added opened the door to customers nobody else was serving.

Everything since has followed from that. Speedysim brought the same checkout to travellers and Atomicrails opened it up to businesses and AI agents. Cryptorefills Labs studies what actually happens when people pay.

Milestones

1. 2015

   • Big Dream Ventures is founded in Amsterdam.

2. 2018

   • Cryptorefills launches, processing its own blockchain payments for ecommerce.

3. 2019

   • Cryptorefills accepts Lightning Network payments.

4. 2021

   • Cryptorefills Labs opens its research to customers, partners and the wider crypto community.
   • Cryptorefills becomes the first ecommerce site to process Ethereum layer 2 payments.

5. 2022

   • Cryptorefills accepts Circle’s EURC on the day its mainnet launches.

6. 2026

   • AI agents can shop on Cryptorefills through an MCP server and x402 payments.
   • Cryptorefills Labs publishes Working Paper No. 1, on where crypto gets spent across 62 countries.
